Starr’s Doula Philosophy
My philosophy as a doula aligns with the Philosophy of Midwifery Care published by the International Confederation of Midwives which states that “pregnancy and childbearing are usually normally occurring physiological processes.”
When supporting a parent as a doula I specialize in the following:
Pregnancy Planning…. is a way for you to harness whatever is in your power and prepare for anything that is out of your control.
This would be your time to illustrate what you hope to get out of this pregnancy- from your mental or physical health goals and your daily routine to your preparations for postpartum and your monthly personal milestones related to this journey. You can just call me your starter coach for this marathon called motherhood!
Even if you’re already a mother and this is not your first birth… What are some things you’d like to do the same or differently? What is most important to you during this pregnancy? What are your goals… and how do you plan to achieve them? Let’s talk about it!
Postpartum Recovery Support & Relief… is a crucial part of the childbearing process that most people may forget about!
What we know for certain is that your body will heal and your baby will grow. What we don’t know yet is what your routine or lifestyle will look like once one becomes two! For this reason, I offer my doula support during postpartum to help you navigate things such as caring for a newborn and caring for other elements of your home & family while caring for yourself in the first 6 weeks.
How can I nurture and support you during this time? Let’s figure it out!
Newborn Care Support & Education
As someone who grew up as a babysitter and auntie, I realized that there are so many people out there who are beginning their journey to parenthood who may not know about things such as how to hold a baby, how to change a diaper (and how newborn poop matters), when & how to feed, what is & isn’t safe and so much more. If this is you, I got you! Even if this isn’t you, and this applies to your partner or someone else supporting you in your pregnancy… I’m here for them too!
While I do respect the decision of women to opt for a fully medical birth, my philosophy as a doula supports ethical & competent midwifery care as the most appropriate care for pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
